golden age

The Cambodian "Magic Flute" was in Ann Arbor this last week... and, they were amazing. Every moment was precision, expressive and beautiful. Sophiline, the artistic director, explained to me that girls wanting to dance in this style must start before they are eight years old or their joints will be too rigid to forms the graceful hand/finger arches required of them. As I sat back stage watching the show, I caught myself unconsciously bending my fingers backwards. A quick look around and I spotted several stage hands doing the same thing.
The dance group was extremely friendly and positive. This week I will be working with a group from Central Asia and another from Chicago, the Hubbard Street Dance. Pictures to follow.
