A Day at the Zoo
Day 7: Our Final DayAs dark grey sky and down-pour greeted us but didn't stop us... not we a baby panda was our destination. We weren't disappointed. The National Zoo isn't the largest zoo we've ever visited but it has much to offer. The otters, elephants, lemurs, cheetas, etc. were all there but it was the pandas that were our favorite. After many years, the National Zoo has succeeded in breeding a baby panda in captivity. If you visit the zoo don't miss the movie all it took to conceive and care for baby Tai Shan.

Spontaneous Dance Party at the Metro Station
Ducks on a Pond
Supposedly the cherry blossoms peaked last week but they are still stunning. Here two Mallards float on a petal encrusted pond.
Jenny's New Shoes
Among the Eastern Market purchases: I bought Denis a new black t-shirt with a photo of Dick Cheney that reads, "First kill all the lawyers", a white on white embroidered batiste blouse and Jenny bought a pair of turquoise spiked heels.
Spring Break 2006
Welcome to in Washington D.C. and Cherry Blossom (Sakura) Festival. Day 1: We arrived to sunny skies and pink blossoms.
Day 2: The morning was spent at Eastern Market. We divided into three groups and shopped. At 12:30p we took the Metro to Union Station and intended to walk the rest of the way to the Atlas Theatre. Due to an under-estimate in the time and distance we had to flag a taxi. The neighborhood that housed the theatre was very dicey and the building appeared abandoned.
My instinct said, "There is no way we want to get out in this area!” and the driver confirmed with, "Nothing good happens in this neighborhood."
The brave Virginia volunteered to check out the theatre and assured us it was decent on the inside. She was right. We saw an entertaining version of The Concentrated Mikado. (Side note: On the walk back to the station we were nearly run over and attacked verbally, a testament to the character of D.C. not advertised in brochures.}
