Ann Arbor Art Fair

It's a small photo because I took it with my cell phone.
Cynthia and I have been volunteering at the Ann Arbor Art Fair for about 5 years. Usually the weather is in the upper 90's and sticky with humidity. This year was a pleasant change. There was a high of 80 degrees, cyan skies and a slight breeze.
As a fair volunteer, we spend our time answering questions at the information booth or booth sitting for various artists. The most interesting artist I sat for, this year, was a man from Santa Fe that did miniture sculptures of people in conversation, usually laughing, enjoying each other. There was an artist that made notebooks with shaped leather or suede covers. The only artist I made a sale for was a jeweler - Her husband, a glass blower, had the booth next door and was able to help me write up the sale. We would really like to put more time in volunteering at the fair but something always seems to get in the way. In a year or two... I would love to have my own booth.

Pampered Feline Visits

Southeastern Michigan has been sizzling with high temperatures and high humidity. This is unfortunate for the beautiful, white cat that greeted us last Sunday afternoon. It's difficult to believe this feline is an outdoor cat with it's beautifully groomed, pure white, long fur. When we first noticed him, he was yeowling so loudly we thought it must be our own Tom that had gotten out. Although he was new to us, he flopped to his side and insisted on being petted. Cynthia brought him a bowl of cool water and I searched neighbors to find kitties home. I found no home for the cat but he was gone the next morning and we haven't seen him since.

Pigs Gone Wild

A day trip to Michigan's Adventure (Muskegon, MI) brought Ruby into our lives (bright fushia pig in center with remote). Before Ruby arrived Pinkus(far left) and Neville(far right) were quiet, homebodies who got their excitement through cross-referencing funguses and shopping for bowties, now, seem out-of-control. They have taken to beer and loud colors. Pinkus has even donned a red tie. Denis Dolgachev, roommate and homeowner, fears he has welcomed "Jerry Springerish" troubles into his home when he welcomes Ruby.

Happy Birthday, Dad!

Tuesday was my dad's 78th birthday. I went back and for about visiting as I live 2 1/2 hours away, but I just couldn't miss seeing him. He has Parkingson's disease and I want to make the best the time I have left with him.

Traveling wasn't bad, as it was sunny and dry early. But grey filled the sky and became darker and thicker and eventually spilled buckets of rain. The rain was so heavy that I bought a toothbrush, spent the night with my parents and drove back early Wednesday.

I am very glad I made the effort and drove across the state.

Dorothy - Zoolander

Yes, that is Judy Garland's hair. I found a great picture of her as Dorothy (original Wizard of Oz) and Photoshopped Cynthia's face into it. On a large piece of foam core I glued 9 of the photos with the autograph, "There must be more to life than being really, really, really, ridiculously good looking!" (from the movie Zoolander). On the upper right edge of the foam core I cut to indicate hills and places 3-d blocks of "06 (the graduation year).

Rebel Without a Clause

A take off on the James Dean film, Rebel Without a Cause, Cynthia poses next to the Dairy Queen, at night, with a pen instead of a cigarette. Note the film description: Challenging drama of today's youth and their struggle with adjectives, adverbs and clauses.

the silence of the techies

The theme of Cynthia's party was Hollywood/Broadway, as she is hugely into acting and writing plays. I decorated the tables with oversized golden Oscars, hung large gold stars, made a scrapbook of some of her accomplishments, served a Comedy and Tragedy cake and made three 20" x 30" posters of Cynthia in various classic movies - spoofs, of course.

This Silence of the Techies is a photo of Cynthia with a DeathHead moth over her mouth.
