Blood Clot

Last week, Greg began to complain about pains in his legs and being light-headed when he went up the stairs. He is in such good shape that it was a bit disconcerting. Tuesday night, he came out of our room limping toward the bathroom and I noticed that his right calf was swollen. It measured a full inch and 1/2 larger than the left. I immediately tried to contact the on-call physician (it was 2a and it took 4 phone calls and until 5a for the doctor to get back to us). The doctor thought it was a blood clot and told me to take him to the Chelsea Hospital ER right away. Greg wouldn't go. He called from the ER around noon and said he had been admitted but didn't know how long he would be in the hospital.

The doctor started him on Cumemen (sp?), a blood thinner. It was Saturday before he was released. Of course, he did too much right away and has been suffering every since. Yesterday, we picked up some crutches for him. Today, we purchased some compression socks. They seem to be making a huge difference. Although he isn't feeling very well, he has been working at home with a laptop and papers that I picked up from the office. He is to participate in a conference call with his U.P. clients on Thursday, rather than going up via car or airplane. We don't know how long it will be before he can get back to any kind of normal life and travel. Hopefully he will be able to make the trip to Salt Lake City with me for Porscha's operation next month. Doctors think it could take over a year for the clot to dissolve or correct itself.
